1.Problem Statement

" Many urban commuters face affordability challenges with existing taxi services; thus, there's a need for a cost-effective taxi app solution ensuring accessibility without compromising quality or safety."

2.Background Research

" "In this study, we delve into the competitive landscape of transportation applications in Kenya, focusing on prominent players such as Uber, Bolt, and Faras. With the rise of smartphone usage and the increasing demand for convenient and reliable transportation options, these platforms have become integral parts of urban mobility. Our research aims to dissect the strategies, market penetration, user experiences, and service offerings of each platform, providing insights into the dynamic and fiercely competitive nature of the transport app market in Kenya. By examining key metrics such as pricing, availability, reliability, and user satisfaction, we seek to uncover the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats faced by these platforms as they vie for dominance in one of Africa's burgeoning tech markets.

3.Findings

" "Despite entering the market more recently, Faras has emerged as a formidable competitor, overtaking established players like Uber and Bolt in Kenya's transportation app industry. The key to Faras' rapid ascent lies in its consistent offers aimed at enhancing customer satisfaction. By strategically deploying promotions and incentives, Faras has effectively attracted and retained a growing user base, outpacing its competitors despite having less time in the market. This trend underscores Faras' agile approach to meeting consumer needs and its ability to disrupt the traditional dynamics of the transportation sector in Kenya."

4.Feature Priority

" "Building upon the success strategies observed in Faras and aiming to innovate further in the transportation app sector, we propose the development of a novel feature: a carpooling section within the app. Drawing inspiration from Faras' emphasis on customer satisfaction and leveraging the growing trend of shared mobility, this feature aims to enhance user experience while promoting cost-saving, comfort, and safety. By facilitating ridesharing among users with common destinations, our envisioned app not only aligns with the evolving preferences of modern commuters but also addresses pressing concerns such as traffic congestion and environmental sustainability. Through this innovative approach, we aspire to redefine the landscape of transportation apps, offering a compelling solution that resonates with both consumers and the broader community."

5.Conclusion

"In conclusion, our design process, inspired by Faras' success, has led us to develop a innovative carpooling feature. By addressing customer needs for cost-saving, comfort, and safety, we aim to redefine transportation apps in Kenya. Our commitment to user feedback and excellence ensures we deliver a solution that revolutionizes urban mobility."
